The People series of drawings were created over the course of six years between 2017-2021, as I moved between the cities of Tel-Aviv, Paris, London and Rome. During those travels I drew dozens of small aquarelle street-portraits: snapshots of people in their transitional moments. A man walks his dog, absent minded, a woman sitting alone in the cafe, a girl crossing the road in a hurry. The people I drew were caught in moments of transitions between one ‘event’ to another, in anticipation or in trivial awaiting. Such moments are framed by the events and occurrences that we perceive as of some importance. Yet, the importance of one moment over the other often seems arbitrary, causing us to overlook, as if we were sleeping, the majority or our moments- those in which "nothing" happens.I noticed that most of the people are drew were older- the reason for this, I realized, was not only my preference of subjects, but the fact that in those many moments of pausing and looking around, the people who were not at work or at school were elderly. Those were the people I came across, going about their affairs, on their way from one place to another or, I imagined wandering around with time that seems to be stretching longer and slower than for other people. Time felt that way to me too, as I shared those moments with them- capturing it in my drawings.Only later, looking back at this body of works, I understood that they reflected something from my own experience during that period of time. Each drawing was a pause in my intentional and unintentional wandering, searching, and all together, these fragmentes draw a linear representation of these years of liminality. More than a physical state, being in ‘transition’ is a state of mind: moving toward, walking away, pausing, all share the mysterious quality of being somewhere and nowhere simultaneously. To me, the state of transition is the feeling of being ‘out of place’ while, inevitably, being 'somewhere'. These drawings are my way of capturing those moments.2017-2021
